UCO Design Department To Host Halloween Pumpkin Carving Competition

October 26, 2011

The University of Central Oklahoma Department of Design hopes to carve out support for scholarships and events with its Halloween pumpkin carving competition at 3 p.m., Monday, Oct. 31 in Plunkett Park on the UCO campus.

Both the campus community and the public are invited to participate and/or attend. The cost to enter the competition is a $5 minimum donation, with 30 spots available for participants, but attendance is free.  Once the pumpkin carve is completed, the pumpkins will be auctioned off to those attending the competition.

In its second year, Central design students who are members of the student chapters of AIGA and the International Interior Design Association (IIDA), the professional design organizations on campus, organize the event.  The UCO AIGA and IIDA chapters give Central design students the opportunity to build leadership skills and help them network with the local design community.

"This competition is a fun way to get students involved outside of the classroom and to celebrate the season.  It also demonstrates that creativity is even possible with pumpkins," said Ruki Ravikumar, MFA, chair of the Department of Design.

Funds raised from the competition will support design student events and scholarships.
