UCO Theatre Arts Department Presents Shakespeare's Dark Comedy 'Measure for Measure'

October 16, 2013

The University of Central Oklahoma Theatre Arts Department will present one of William Shakespeare’s most acclaimed dark comedies “Measure for Measure” at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 31 – Nov. 2 and 2 p.m. Nov. 3 at Mitchell Hall Theater, located on campus.

Centered around newly empowered deputy of Vienna Lord Angelo, “Measure for Measure” follows the narrative of a city restrained by fervently enforced codes of chastity while the enforcer and authority figure, Angelo, finds himself sensually attracted to a nun.

“This play forces audience members to be engaged, take sides, make decisions,” said Bob McGill, Ph.D., Central theatre professor and director of “Measure for Measure.”

This Central production includes theatre arts students ranging from freshmen to seniors.

“Shakespeare is such a popular playwright in the professional world that we at Central’s Theatre Arts Department want to give students a shot to see or work in a Shakespeare play,” explained McGill.

Tickets are $14 for adults; $10 for senior citizens, faculty and staff with a valid I.D.; and $4 for UCO students with a valid I.D.  Tickets can be purchased by calling the Mitchell Hall Box Office at 405-974-3375 or by visiting

A free and open-to-the-public preview of Central’s production of “Measure for Measure” will take place from 4-6 p.m. Oct. 24 in the Melton Gallery, located in the Art and Design Building.  This preview is a part of the Melton Gallery Performance Series, a fall semester series that features the College of Fine Arts and Design’s performances divisions.
