UCO College of Fine Arts and Design Chamber Orchestra Gives Back to the Community with Concert

October 28, 2013

The University of Central Oklahoma School of Music will present a performance by the College of Fine Arts and Design (CFAD) Chamber Orchestra at 3 p.m. Nov. 10 at the Armstrong Auditorium, 14400-B South Bryant Road in Edmond.

Currently in its premiere year, the CFAD Chamber Orchestra is a new initiative. The orchestra consists of School of Music faculty members as well as other area musicians.

“The goal of this orchestra is to give back to the community in two ways,” said John Clinton, Ph.D., director of the CFAD Chamber Orchestra.

“We want to give local musicians a chance to make music and we also want to provide the opportunity for the Edmond community to hear high quality music of the chamber sort, a genre that is not readily available in the area.”

This semester, 39 musicians have volunteered their time to the orchestra, a testament of the passion and dedication to music of those participating, Clinton said.

This concert’s program features Johann Sebastian Bach, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Igor Stravinsky, each composer representing a monumental era in music: baroque, classical and 20th century.

“This orchestra features incredibly wonderful local talent.  It will be a performance the community won’t want to miss,” Clinton concluded.

Admission is free.  To make reservations, call the Armstrong Auditorium at 405-285-1010.
