The University of Central Oklahoma’s Musical Theatre Division will present the theatrical version of “The Full Monty” at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 8 – 10 and 2 p.m. Nov. 11 in UCO’s Mitchell Hall Theater.
Based on the 1997 hit Academy Award-winning British film “The Full Monty,” the musical is about six unemployed Buffalo steelworkers who are out of work and need to find a quick way to make cash in order to save their families, homes and self-respect. The former steelworkers decide to become male strippers determined to succeed by “taking it all off,” or as the British say revealing “the full monty.”
Though the musical is very comedic, it also covers serious subject matter. Throughout the production the men work through their inner fears, self-consciousness and anxieties, and ultimately overcome their inner demons.
“This show is truly about the strength of the human spirit,” said Steven Smeltzer, UCO musical theatre instructor and director of the show.
“It is about six men realizing their self worth and their path to becoming better, more well-rounded individuals. The audience can expect a very moving and poignant, but also, hilarious show,” he continued.
This show contains adult language and situations and is recommended for mature audiences.
Tickets are $14 for adults, $10 for senior citizens and non-UCO students, and $4 for Central students with a UCO I.D. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Mitchell Hall Theater box office at (405) 974-3375 or visiting www.click4tix.com/uco.
