UCO Artist-In-Residence to Perform Annual Fundraising Concert 'Toast to the Maestro'

Nov. 9, 2010

University of Central Oklahoma artist-in residence Valery Kuleshov will perform in the College of Fine Arts and Design's (CFAD) annual fundraising concert "Toast to the Maestro" at 7 p.m., Nov. 29 at the UCO Jazz Lab, located at 100 E. Fifth St. in Edmond.

The concert will raise funds for piano scholarships and the All-Steinway initiative at Central. Recommended donations to attend the concert are $50. Wine from Edmond Wine Shop and hors d'oeuvres from Interurban will be served.

"Special attention is given to the food and wine choices each year to ensure a new experience," said Lori Alspaugh, CFAD development director.

"We also feature a special opening performance. This year we are honored to have an exceptional violinist studying with us from Montenegro."

CFAD's first global arts scholarship recipient, Bozica Delic, will open the concert for Kuleshov. Delic has played violin since the age of six and won first place and the special Golden Lira award at a competition for stringed instruments in Baletta, Italy. She will be performing N. Sarasate's "Romance Andaluza" and Manuel de Falla's "Danse Espagne."

Among his many awards, Kuleshov won the silver medal at the 1993 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. He has performed throughout Europe, North America and South America, as well as in New Zealand and Japan.

"This is CFAD's signature event with Maestro Kuleshov, and the Jazz Lab venue lends itself to an intimate experience by allowing guests an up-close view of the artist's hands on the keys," added Alspaugh.

To attend the benefit, contact Alspaugh at (405) 974-3778 or lalspaugh@uco.edu. Reservations must be made by Nov. 22.
