The University of Central Oklahoma College of Fine Arts and Design will open a pair of art exhibits, “Observations” and “Images in Time,” with a reception from 4 – 6 p.m., Nov. 13 in the Donna Nigh Exhibit Hall, located on the third floor of the Nigh University Center.

“Observations” showcases the talents of black and white photographer Heinz Hall, former manager of the Physics and Chemistry Instruments Shop at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater.

Hall uses the scientific experience he gained as shop manager in his photography by enhancing and altering the development of film using the darkroom film development method.  His photographic images, with an overall approach towards simplicity, use intricate composition to produce a dramatic visual presentation.          

“Images in Time,” a retrospective look at serigraphy, also known as silkscreen or screen printing, consists of over 30 years of UCO students’ work in this medium.           

“Serigraphy is a very versatile process that has many color capabilities.  It can fall into the realm of painterly, photographic, autographic and other mediums,” said Robert Smith, M.F.A., Central art adjunct professor.  Smith first implemented the study of serigraphy into UCO’s art curriculum in 1990.          

“The print collection contains serigraphs that illustrate various techniques possible with the screen printing process.  Some prints were chosen for the specific technique used, while others were added to the collection because it was a successful unique creative print,” he continued.          

Both exhibits will be on display through Dec. 6. The receptions and exhibit are free and open to the public.
