The Oklahoma Center for Arts Education (OCAE) at the University of Central Oklahoma will offer a variety of highly specialized summer camps, including the PianOKC piano ensemble camp, June 28-30, and Interior Design and Graphic Design camps, running throughout July.
PianOKC is a three-day interactive, multiple-keyboard ensemble camp with soloists selected from among the participants. Open to intermediate and advanced pianists of all ages, those who would like to participate must audition for placement between 4:30 and 8:30 p.m., June 1, in the UCO Music Building. Audition details can be found on the OCAE website at www.ocae.net under "Events."
This camp provides a rare opportunity for pianists to collaborate in a digital keyboard ensemble and play a solo with live ensemble. Cash prizes will also be awarded to the winners of each division.
PianOKC will meet from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., June 28-30 in the UCO Music Building, and requires a $200 registration fee.
The Interior and Graphic Design Workshops are week-long opportunities for high school juniors, seniors and incoming college freshmen. Participants will work on projects with UCO design professors and interact with design professionals to better understand what it is that designers do.
Students considering graphic design or interior design as a career choice or college major should attend.
The Interior Design Workshop will run from July 12-20, the Graphic Design Workshop, level I, will run from July 12-20, and Graphic Design, level II, from July 21-30, each with a $200 registration fee. Each workshop meets from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day on the UCO campus.
"This is a great opportunity for Oklahoma high school students to see what is actually out there in the professional fields and potential college majors they are interested in. They will receive the kind of exposure that just isn't available in the high school setting," said Ines Burnham, program manager for OCAE.
Both the PianOKC and the Design Workshops are the only specialized camps of their kind in Oklahoma.
For more information on these or other OCAE camps and to register, visit www.ocae.net or call (405) 216-2586.
