The University of Central Oklahoma Department of Design will open “Sit!,” an exhibit featuring cardboard chairs designed and created by Central students, with a reception from 4-6 p.m., March 14 in the Donna Nigh Gallery located on the fourth floor of the UCO Nigh University Center. The opening is free and open to the public, and will include light refreshments and live music by Central students.
First-year foundation level design students spent weeks creating the chairs out of only cardboard and glue, keeping in mind that the chairs must also be functional.
“Students have been asked to consider various aspects of design – ergonomics, size, comfort, form and functionality,” said Ruki Ravikumar, M.F.A., chair of the design department.
“The aesthetic will vary from chair to chair and they will be functional.”
Exhibit attendees are encouraged to sit in these fully functional cardboard chairs to test out the strength of the designs.
The exhibit will be on display through April 3.
