PL Studios to Fund Design Scholarship at UCO

Jan. 27, 2011

PL Studios Inc. of Oklahoma City will make a $7,500 donation to the University of Central Oklahoma Department of Design to help fund undergraduate scholarships.

A cash scholarship of $500 will be awarded to one design student this spring with the remaining funds going into an endowed scholarship fund at the UCO Foundation. The company hopes to grow the endowment so that it eventually funds a full-tuition scholarship for a deserving student.

"A scholarship at UCO helps extend our dedication to education on a local
level," said PL Studios CEO Piyush Patel.

"With several UCO graduates working at PL Studios, we knew the graphic design program and its curriculum was successful at helping students refine their skill sets and grow as artists. Overall, providing a scholarship is the least we can do for a hard-working student who is determined to take their education to the next level."

PL Studios, Inc., developers of Digital-Tutors, is an innovator and leader in creating video-based training.  It provides students, universities, professionals, large studios and corporations with online computer graphics training to help clients create next-generation films, commercials, video games and visual effects.

It counts among its clients some of the most well-known companies in the world including Disney, NASA, Nike, Motorola and Mercedes Benz.

"It's nice to get a scholarship from PL Studios because they are so respected," said Central's Design Department Chair Ruki Ravikumar.

"They also have a nice philosophy that great design can come from Oklahoma, and that is what our department believes as well, so to get support from them is very meaningful to us."

Central is the first university in the region to house graphic design and interior design in its own Department of Design. It also offers the only minor in illustration in the region. The department offers undergraduate degree options in both graphic design and interior design and a graduate degree in design.
