Feb. 7, 2011wind symphony

The University of Central Oklahoma's Wind Symphony will perform a concert of 20th Century classics at 7:30 p.m., Feb. 17 at Mitchell Hall Theater.

The program will include "March, Op. 99" by Sergei Prokofiev, "Fiesta del Pacifico" by Roger Nixon, "La Fiesta Mexicana" by H. Owen Reed and "Concerto for Alto Saxophone and Winds" by Ingolf Dahl, featuring Central '09 alumnus Tracy Patterson on saxophone.

"Besides the lush scoring and soaring pictorial themes, the pieces are well-crafted, with highly-skilled voicing and wonderful form," said Brian Lamb, DMA, conductor of the wind symphony.

The UCO Wind Symphony is the premier performing ensemble from the Wind and Percussion Division of Central's School of Music. In recent years, they have performed in Carnegie Hall and recorded a CD that has been hailed by critics as a "landmark recording," highlighted by the Wind Symphony's "superb performance throughout."

Ticket prices are $8 for adults, $6 for seniors, non-UCO students and UCO faculty and staff and $4 for UCO students with ID. For tickets, call (405) 974-3375.
