The University of Central Oklahoma School of Music will present a historical performance concert at 7:30 p.m., Feb. 19 at the UCO Jazz Lab, 100 E. Fifth St. in Edmond. The concert is a part of the School of Music’s Faculty Artist Concert Series, a yearlong performance series featuring the talents of Central music faculty members. All performances take place on Tuesday nights at 7:30 p.m. at the UCO Jazz Lab.
Historical performance consists of a style and use of technique that applies results of historical research to the performance of music from the 17th through 19th centuries.
In this concert all of the instruments used, with the exception of the oboe, will be Baroque instruments: four violins, two cellos, one flute, and a harpsichord.
The string and harpsichord faculty will perform Francois Couperin’s “L’Apothéose de Lully,” a programmatic piece, which will be introduced by Ted Honea, Ph.D., historical music professor.
“A programmatic piece is a composition based with reference to an external idea or narrative,” said Honea.
The concert will be a preview of performances-to-come presented by Central’s developing Center for Historical Performance.
Tickets are $10 and can be purchased by calling the UCO School of Music at 405-974-5004. Admission is free for Central students, faculty and staff with a Central I.D.
Half of the proceeds will go toward Central Music Scholarships and the rest will support the school.
