The University of Central Oklahoma School of Music will present a concert featuring Emily Butterfield, D.M.A., assistant professor of flute, at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 29 at the UCO Jazz Lab, 100 E. Fifth Street in Edmond.Butterfield’s performance is a part of the School of Music’s Faculty Artist Concert Series, a yearlong performance series featuring the talents of Central music faculty members. All performances take place on Tuesday nights at 7:30 p.m. at the Jazz Lab.
Now in her fifth year at UCO, Butterfield has performed at national and regional music conventions as well as with symphonies and ensembles across the country.
Butterfield will perform a variety of compositions including Eric Ewazen’s “Ballade, Pastorale and Dance” with Peggy Moran, Central horn instructor, and Sam Magrill, D.M.A., pianist and Central Composer-in-Residence.
While Butterfield chose compositions to perform based on their prominent standing in flute repertoire, she also chose to perform a contemporary piccolo piece for variety.
“To highlight my versatility as a performing flutist, I wanted to include something different for this program. In addition to performing challenging works for flute, I wanted to include the piccolo, thus introducing audiences to another instrument of the flute family,” Butterfield said.
Tickets are $10 and can be purchased by calling the UCO School of Music at 405-974-5004. Admission is free for Central students, faculty and staff with a Central I.D. Half of the proceeds will go toward Central Music Scholarships, and the rest will support the school.
