The University of Central Oklahoma School of Music Faculty String Quartet has been invited to present a special concert at the Xinghai Conservatory of Music in Guangzhou, China on Feb. 25.The concert is a part of Central’s School of Music partnership with the conservatory. The partnership consists of collaboration among Central and Xinghai Conservatory faculty members for performances both in Guangzhou and Oklahoma. Additionally, the partnership was formed to aid in music student recruitment from China.
Central’s Faculty String Quartet is comprised of first violinist Hong Zhu, D.M.A., second violinist Theodora Morris, violist Ralph Morris, D.M.A., and cellist Tess Remy-Schumacher, D.M.A.
Two Xinghai music faculty members, pianist Gelin Lu and violinist Xi Lu, will join the Central Faculty String Quartet for the performance, which will feature music by composers Joseph Hayden, Johannes Brahms and Claude Chalhoub.
The Central Faculty String Quartet will also be presenting four master classes for Xinghai students at the conservatory during their weeklong stay in Guangzhou.
“We’re looking forward to meeting the Xinghai Conservatory of Music faculty members, exploring their facilities, and meeting students who are interested in coming to UCO,” said Hong Zhu.
