The UCO Department of Dance is an award-winning program that emphasizes a variety of backgrounds and professional experiences with training in technique, movement analysis, teaching methodology and dance history.
∙ Offers the only BA in Dance Education in Oklahoma
∙ Maintains extensive Arts Outreach program including performances for K-12 schools throughout Oklahoma,
at-risk schools, senior centers and regional festivals and conferences
∙ Trains students to be proficient in modern dance, ballet and jazz
∙ Invites guest artists from all genres and from around the world invited to teach and choreograph; past
guest artists include: Bill Evans, Frank Chaves, Loretta Livingston, Sean Curran, Janice Garrett,
Adam Parson, Glyn Grey and Malaya
∙ Succeeds in placing graduates in the field of dance as performers, teachers, choreographers and studio owners
The Department of Dance also features the Kaleidoscope Dance Company,the dance program's touring repertory company which entertains and educates audiences with its varied repertoire of modern, ballet, jazz, hip-hop, tap and theatre dance. The company averages 20 performances per year including two annual campus concerts featuring faculty and guest artist work, two student showcases featuring student choreography and state and regional festivals. UCO's Kaleidoscope Dancers have received many awards including the National College Choreography Initiative Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Outstanding Student Choreographer and Outstanding Student Performer from the South-Central America College Dance Festival. The company has performed domestically at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. and abroad in Puebla, Mexico.
