Melissa Powers joined the faculty in the Department of Kinesiology & Health Studies at the University of Central Oklahoma in the Fall of 2007. Prior to this, she was the Program Coordinator in the Office for Studies on Aging at the University of Arkansas. Dr. Powers also worked for seven years as an Exercise Specialist and Personal Trainer at a hospital-based fitness center. Her typical teaching assignments include graduate and undergraduate research methods courses and statistics courses as well as courses in aging, group fitness, body composition, and exercise programming for special populations. Dr. Powers' research interests center on physical activity promotion among senior adults. She is currently conducting a study of resistance training among adults over the age of 75 years. Dr. Powers also maintains active membership in the American College of Sports Medicine, Gerontological Society of America, Association for Gerontology in Higher Education, and the Council on Aging and Adult Development of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance.
