Rod Edwards has been the Technology/Media Specialist for the College of Education and Professional Studies at the University of Central Oklahoma since November 1999. He received his Bachelor of Arts in English with Departmental Honors from Oklahoma State University in 1995 and his Master of Arts in English with Presidential Honors from the University of Central Oklahoma in 1997. The previous year, he had the honor of being selected as the Outstanding Student in the UCO College of Liberal Arts for 1995-1996.
Mr. Edwards began working with technology and professional education in 1997 as a member of Oklahoma City University’s Aerospace Science and Technology Education Center (ASTEC). There he worked with higher education faculty, K-12 teachers, and other education professionals to maintain a high-tech environment at both the ASTEC’s campus headquarters and their International Aerospace Academy, an aerospace-themed educational facility. There, Mr. Edwards observed firsthand how effective technology can be in creating exciting, hands-on learning experiences.
Mr. Edwards next worked at the fledging Oklahoma Commission for Teacher Preparation (OCTP) where he originated the position of Document Specialist. Besides being responsible for producing a variety of documents (electronic and traditional), Mr. Edwards provided computer support to the Commission staff and coordinated the uses of equipment and technology for Commission meetings, retreats, and special events.
Now at the University of Central Oklahoma, Mr. Edwards supervises and directs the reservation, delivery, set-up, and use of media and technology resources in College of Education and Professional Studies’ classrooms. In this way, he hopes to help promote the effective use of educational technology in the classroom among UCO’s teacher candidates and all CEPS students. Mr. Edwards oversees the use of computers, multimedia projectors, audio-visual equipment, digital whiteboards, and other technology that instructors integrate into college learning spaces. Mr. Edwards regularly provides recommendations on technology-related issues for the college, and works closely with our varied faculty, adjuncts, support and professional staff. Mr. Edwards also manages a student team that provides immediate in-class technology support to CEPS classrooms in 5 buildings across campus.
Mr. Edwards remains an active participant in campus and college activities. He was selected for and completed both the Leadership UCO and the Advanced Leadership UCO program. He has been a member of the UCO Safe-Zone Ally Program since 2001. Mr. Edwards has also been honored to receive several awards from the college, including the CEPS Staff Award for Outstanding Service.
In January 2013, Mr. Edwards accepted new responsibilities as team supervisor for college technology services in addition to his continuing role as Technology/Media Specialist.
