The Department of Human Environmental Sciences offers preparation for professional careers in three different undergraduate areas. These programs lead to a Bachelor of Science Degree in: Fashion Marketing; Family Life Education - Child Development, Family Life Education - Marriage and Family, Family Life Education - Gerontology and Nutrition, Dietetics and Food Management.
The department also offers four Master of Science Degrees which include Family and Child Studies: Family Life Education, LMFT, Infant Child Specialist, and also Nutrition and Food Management. The Child Study Center in Human Environmental Sciences Department serves as an integral teaching/learning facility for students. The department has eight full-time faculty members, who all hold an earned doctorate, and four full-time staff.
The Family Life Education program at UCO will be gathering toys for the Canadian Valley Vo-Tech Child Development Center Child Care Program – El Reno Campus. The CVTC Child Development Center was totally destroyed in the May 31st tornado and we are collecting toys to give to them. The Child Development Center is now operating in a local church in El Reno. Those wanting to donate these items may deliver them to the HES building, RM 100E (Department of Human Environmental Sciences) by July 8th. If you are interested in donating cash or for more information about this project, call 974-5551.

The Child Study Center provides half day programs for young children using best practices based on established quality standards and research in the field. The program supports the education, training and research efforts of UCO students and faculty while offering of valuable learning experiences for our children and families. Read More
The purposes of this Honor Society are to recognize and encourage academic excellence, develop qualities of professional and personal leadership, provide opportunities for service to the profession, and encourage professional and personal commitment in order to advance family and consumer sciences and related areas. The main purpose of the Student Dietetic Association is to promote awareness and the profession of Dietetics among Students of the University of Central Oklahoma. The Association provides an outlet for nutrition and dietetic students to exchange ideas and plan activities. Read More
The UCO Early Childhood Association is a student organization that is affiliated with the Early Childhood Association of Oklahoma. The purpose is to bring UCO students together in order to further their professional development and to broaden their educational experiences with young children and families. Read More
The UCO Fashion Troupe is a student organization related to Fashion Marketing Program. Read More
The organization is a student affiliate of the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR) and also works cooperatively with the Oklahoma Council on Family Relations (OKCFR). The Central Council on Family Relations seeks to provide a forum for students and faculty to share in the development and dissemination of knowledge about families and family relationships, establish professional standards and work to promote family well-being. Family Life Education
The Child Study Center is currently accredited by the National Academy of Early childhood Programs affiliated with the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The Center is also licensed by the state of Oklahoma with the "3 Star" credential.
The three Family Life Education undergraduate majors and the Family and Child Studies graduate program have received National Academic Program Approval by the National Council on Family Relations as a CFLE approved program.
