The Department of Curriculum and Instruction offers programs of study leading to the Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education. These programs provide high quality preparation for the teaching profession and are recognized for their excellence in the state and southwestern region. Graduate programs leading to the M.Ed. Early Childhood Education or M.Ed. Elementary Education are also available. The Bilingual Education/Teaching English as a Second Language graduate, credential program provides the student an opportunity to complete a state-approved course of study in this area while completing any teacher certification program. The programs provide many opportunities for professional scholarly/creative accomplishments, classroom clinical teaching experiences, and global learning activities such as study tours and international practicums.
The Department of Curriculum and Instruction consists of twelve full-time faculty members. Faculty members in the department are experienced classroom teachers who continue to engage with teachers and students in school classrooms. All programs are nationally recognized by the respective Specialized Professional Associations through the NCATE accreditation process.

Initial Oklahoma Licensure
Teacher certification is attainable upon completion of requirements and passage of certification exams for each program. The Bilingual/Multicultural and English as a Second Language credentials are acquired by eligible certified teachers upon completion of required coursework and recommendation by the University.
