Compass Learning Community

The Compass Learning Community helps incoming first-year students succeed who would like additional academic assistance. We will select approximately 48 qualified first-year students to participate in this community. Participants will be provided with an incredible opportunity to tap into some of UCO's best faculty and tutoring resources.  Students take five classes together during the academic year, live on the same residential floor, and receive supplemental tutoring and instruction.  Each learning community has a Peer Mentor, an upper class student, who resides in the hall, serves as a role model and mentors students throughout the first year.

Is the Compass Learning Community right for me?

Are you the first in your family to go to college?

Are you unsure about what you might want to major in?

Are you looking for a program that will assist you in succeeding at UCO?

If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, the Compass Learning Community may be a good fit for you!

Program Requirements:

Compass community members will move-in before classes start and begin the Compass Academic Success Camp to prepare them for success in the classroom and with the transition to campus.  For two weeks students will undergo intensive classroom instruction to building reading, writing and keyboarding skills.  Additionally students will begin their Success Central course before the Fall semester begins.  Team building and goal setting activities will help students identify their strengths and individualized plan for success.
