Program Description

Academic Year Program

The Upward Bound Staff makes regular visits to target schools in order to monitor students' academic progress, provide academic and personal advisement, and to provide information about college preparation. Listed below are additional supportive services students receive:

• Tutorial sessions at each school site.

• Saturday workshops at least once a month.

• Personal and social development activities.

• College campus visits.

• Parent Education Workshops

• Achievement and Awards Program to recognize students' accomplishments. 

Summer Residential Program

During the summer, a six-eight week academic study program is held on the UCO campus. Students reside in university housing along with a staff of residential/tutor advisors. Students are selected for participation on the basis of their GPA, attendance and participation during the Academic Year. Services are as listed:

• Daily courses in: English, Mathematics, Science (with laboratory experience), Foreign language, Reading & Study Skills, Computer Technology and selected elective courses.

• Social, cultural, and recreational events during the evenings

• Seminars include career, academic, personal, and motivational issues

• End of Summer Enrichment Trip

• Achievement and Awards Program to recognize students' accomplishments

• Original Performing Arts Production presented to the community. 

Seniors

Students get a head start on their college plans by their participation in the Bridge Program during their senior year. The purpose of the Bridge Program is to assist students make a successful transition from  high school to college. Selection to participate during the Summer Bridge Program is based on GPA, ACT scores and program participation. Bridge Program activities/services:

• Mentor Match (UCO Student)

• Academic advisement for course selection

• Monthly Enrichment Seminars

• Tutoring

• Six hours of college credit for university courses taken during Summer Session. The program pays tuition and textbooks cost (dependent upon the availability of funds)

• Assistance completing college application process and how to apply for Federal Financial Aid
