External Grants - Office of Research & Grants

External Grants

In an era of ever stricter and more limited budgetary times in higher education, external grants play an increasingly important role in bringing in new sources of funds to supplement UCO's educational mission, to attract, retain and develop faculty, improve faculty relations, purchase equipment and fund valuable research, creative and scholarly activities.

The Office of Research & Grants (OR&G) oversees all aspects of the pre-award grant process to federal, state, and local agencies, with the exception of agencies that require a 501(c)(3) nonprofit status to apply.

OR&G Services

As part of promoting transformational learning, the OR&G assists faculty and staff through the process of identifying, developing, and submitting a grant proposal. Our services include:

Kudos Wei Chen

Dr. Wei R. Chen, Assistant Dean of the College of Mathematics and Science and Professor of Engineering and Physics was recently awarded a US patent, titled "Immunologically Modified Carbon Nanotubes for Cancer Treatment."  This is Dr. Chen’s seventh US patent, but the first one filed through UCO.

Dr. Chen has been recognized by many national and international research organizations for his ongoing research on novel therapies for late-state metastatic cancers. His research has been supported by numerous private, state, and federal grants, including a current R21 grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).  He continues to engage many UCO students in his ongoing research.  Congratulations to Dr. Chen.
